Surat al-Muzzammil · The Enshrouded One

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 1p. 574

   يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ ۝١ayah 1

   O you Enwrapped one.

2. 2

   قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۝٢ayah 2

   Stay up the night, except a little.

3. 3

   نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا ۝٣ayah 3

   For half of it, or reduce it a little.

4. 4

   أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا ۝٤ayah 4

   Or add to it; and chant the Quran rhythmically.

5. 5

   إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا ۝٥ayah 5

   We are about to give you a heavy message.

6. 6

   إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا ۝٦ayah 6

   The vigil of night is more effective, and better suited for recitation.

7. 7

   إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا ۝٧ayah 7

   In the daytime, you have lengthy work to do.

8. 8

   وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا ۝٨ayah 8

   So remember the Name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly.

9. 9

   رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا ۝٩ayah 9

   Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He, so take Him as a Trustee.

10. 10

    وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا ۝١٠ayah 10

    And endure patiently what they say, and withdraw from them politely.

11. 11

    وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُو۟لِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا ۝١١ayah 11

    And leave Me to those who deny the truth, those of luxury, and give them a brief respite.

12. 12

    إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا ۝١٢ayah 12

    With Us are shackles, and a Fierce Fire.

13. 13

    وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا ۝١٣ayah 13

    And food that chokes, and a painful punishment.

14. 14

    يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا ۝١٤ayah 14

    On the Day when the earth and the mountains tremble, and the mountains become heaps of sand.

15. 15

    إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَـٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا ۝١٥ayah 15

    We have sent to you a messenger, a witness over you, as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.

16. 16

    فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا ۝١٦ayah 16

    But Pharaoh defied the Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing.

17. 17

    فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ شِيبًا ۝١٧ayah 17

    So how will you, if you persist in unbelief, save yourself from a Day which will turn the children gray-haired?

18. 18

    ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًا ۝١٨ayah 18

    The heaven will shatter thereby. His promise is always fulfilled.

19. 19

    إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا ۝١٩ayah 19

    This is a reminder. So whoever wills, let him take a path to his Lord.

20. 20p. 575

    ۞ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ ۙ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ ۙ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ۚ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا ۚ وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌۢ ۝٢٠ayah 20

    Your Lord knows that you stay up nearly two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or one-third of it, along with a group of those with you. Allah designed the night and the day. He knows that you are unable to sustain it, so He has pardoned you. So read of the Quran what is possible for you. He knows that some of you may be ill; and others travelling through the land, seeking Allah’s bounty; and others fighting in Allah’s cause. So read of it what is possible for you, and observe the prayers, and give regular charity, and lend Allah a generous loan. Whatever good you advance for yourselves, you will find it with Allah, better and generously rewarded. And seek Allah’s forgiveness, for Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
